Meeting Dates

Now we are established and have some money! I can now post our meeting dates all start at 7.30pm

Monday 8th March at the Hilton House Hotel

from then our meetings will be at the METHODIST CHAPEL on Main st on the first Thursday of the month (apart from April as it's Easter)

Thursday 8th April
Thursday 6th May
Thursday 3rd June
Thursday 1st July
Thursday 5th August
Thursday 2nd September
Thursday 7th October - Speaker booked for ths date
Thusday 4th November
Thursday 2nd December - Christmas Social

I am currently trying to find speakers for some of the meetings and it is hoped to have a visit to Marston Church in the Summer and possibly a village walk.

Membership is £10 per year of £2 per meeting

If anyone knows of any speakers on the theme of family history, local history etc please let me know

We have a programme of talks now for thte H&MHG as follows

HILTON & MARSTON HISTORY GROUP

PROGRAMME 2010

All meetings start at 7.30pm and are at the Methodist Chapel, Main Street, Hilton
£2 for non members. Membership is £10 per year (Jan-Dec)

8th March – Carol Barker, Burton library (this meeting is at the Hilton House Hotel)
Introduction to Burton Local Studies Library
8th April – Philip Heath – Churches and Church going in South Derbyshire
A quick gallop through history
6th May – David Smith, Bygone Views
Old photos of the area
3rd June – Workshop
Help with the Parish Register transcribing, and any of our other projects
1st July – Visit to Marston on Dove Church, meet at the church at 7.30pm
5th August - Walk around Hilton, TBA
2nd September – Show and Tell
Bring along any documents, photos etc to show other members
7th October – Ruth Gordon - Derbyshire Diaries,
Looks at the use of diaries for local and family history with aspects of local life such as food, work, leisure, crime etc revealed in readings from published personal diaries dating from the 1680s-1900.
4th November – Richard Stone – The River Trent
The importance of the River Trent as a route way from prehistoric to modern times.
2nd December – Christmas Social

Yes thte meetings are open to all. £2 per meeting or its £10 for a years membership. The next meeting is Thursday 6th May (election Day) at the Methodist Chapel on Main st at 7.30. David Smith will be showing slides of old Hilton and thte area
