Soft play centres

Postby Jane » Thu Mar 12, 2009 10:59 am

HI all,

I believe that there is planning permission pending for a play centre at the business park which will be great but I wondered in the meantime if you could recommend any other local soft play centres?

Thanks,
Jane

Hey,

Ive been to a couple of soft play centres.

My favourite one is Chucklebutties in Belper - not really THAT local, but its nice as its on the side of the old mill, has windows down one side and overlooks the water. Luca loves it! Its definitely worth the short drive to Belper... its under a fiver to get in (babies under 1 are free) and you can stay as long as you like.

Ive been to Hickory Dickorys which is just by Kingsway, but I wont go there again, I didnt like it. The lighting is terrible and you cant see your little one when they are inside the climbing area... other people might like it though, I just didnt get a good feeling there.

And Ive seen signs to the Mundy Play Centre by Markeaton Park, but looking online, it seems to be the activities at Markeaton Park rather than a soft play centre... does anyone know differently?

Hi Rosie
We are huge chucklebutties fans too! We're often there on a tuesd or thurs morning.

I won't try hickory dickory's as my friend told me similar things to you.

Mundy play centre is as you say.... simply the play parks inside markeaton park. There are no soft play facilities.

Another one to try is the Big Top at Uttoxeter although I find this one a bit too big and imposing and I spend the entire time inside the playzone as I can't see Rory and he would definitely get into some sort of accident (he's clumsy! )

My wife takes our little one to Little Rascals at Bretby. It is in a bit of a random location (right in the middle of an industrial estate) but they both love it. As far as I know, for crawlers its free, you only start paying when they can walk.

I've only been once, there were about 30 toddlers there and i think they could sense the fear.

Not that I know of.

If you want to go Derby way there is one on Great Northern Road in Derby. Same sort of thing. Tubby Bears Play Den.

I wonder if Ive seen you there Deb :)

I was trying to take Luca once a week to Chucklebutties but since Mia was born 2 months ago weve only managed to get there twice. Probably a good thing (for me at least) as I have to have at least two chocolate heavens while Im there!

Really must start going regularly, he has the best time... bless him.

There is a soft play at the British Legion on Western Road in Mickleover. It's on Mondays, wednesdays and Fridays 9.30 to 12.30pm. It's pretty good, is run as a charity. It can get very busy though.

Hickorys's is better for slightly older kids, 5 years plus as they can look after themselves in there. My youngets is 2 and he's a bit too adventurous for the baby bit but far too small for the big play frame. It's a bit expensive for what it is.

Tubby Bears's Play Den is better but the food is poor (IMHO).

I keep meaning to try Chuckle Butties, have only ever heard good about it.

Tried The Big Top at Uttoxeter today

Very good, yep on the big side, slides etc but nothing a 4 year old cant cope with plus a big under 4's section

Busy mind as the parents watching the gymnastic area tend to get in the way around the tables area

Well worth it mind, no complaints really a good 8 out of 10 up there with Bretby, Chucklebutties and Hickorys

Waiting for the one to open in Hilton

Any news on this yet
