South Derbyshire Citizens Advice Bureau are offering residents of South Derbyshire free training in budgeting and money management.
The training comprises two three hour sessions covering the hows and whys of budgeting, being credit savvy, and avoiding problems with creditors. “The courses are informal and include practical suggestions – there are no tests!” says Helen Child, Financial Capability Education Worker, who delivers the training, “feedback has been very positive, and attendees have said they will change the way they manage money as a result”.
People get into trouble with money for all sorts of reasons and at different times in their lives. The aim of the course is to help people understand money matters - not to judge their current financial behaviour. We recognise that when you have a low income it is easier to get into difficulties far more quickly because the margin of error is much smaller, and only higher risk credit is available. Even positive events like starting a new job or having a baby pose budgeting challenges.
Those who do not have financial troubles, but would like to learn more about handling their money would also benefit from attending the course. Helen Child said “we would love to give people the tools to avoid the terrible stress that a debt problem can cause”.
The course is offered to all bureau clients, but you do not have to receive advice from the bureau to attend. If you would like to take part, contact Helen Child on 01283 210108 to be booked onto the next course. Bespoke courses with a money management theme can also be delivered on request.
