Passport Photo

Postby clm » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:34 am

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a child's passport photo taken? I know they do them at Markeaton Pharmacy but was hoping there might be somewhere in Mickleover??

Cheers Clare

Yes, unfortunately it isn't as simple as that - she's not very old so won't sit still on the stool - let alone look the right way! I figured I could end up spending alot of money just trying to get 2 perfect photos.

The pharmacy in Allestree has a specific digital camera which they can take the passport type photos with & check they are ok before they print them out. I just wondered if there was anywhere closer..

Right I see! My two don't sit still and they are older!

The booth at Tescos in Derby does let you see the photos before it prints so you do get a few goes. Have you looked at the passport web site. Do they have any guidence regarding babies and photos. It must be a common problem. I know someone who held their child up whilst crouching down i nthe booth!

You can actually take your own digital photos now, as log as they fit within the format requirements in the passport guide book.

They're a lot more lenient too as far as the requirements for babies, it's all in the book.

Still not easy but a damn sight cheaper than using a photo booth! I did Louis' by sitting him in his bumbo against a white wall. Took about 30 shots to get him actually looking at the camera without giggling/frowning/laughing/crying etc. If you don't have a photo printer you could always take the camera into boots to get the actual print done.

Thanks for your responses - have actually just been up to the Allestree one to get it over & done with - although parking was a total nightmare! I tried the pharmacy at Mickleover first but the woman wasn't exactly helpful & looked at me a bit strange as if to say "why would we do passport photos?!" Anyway, we've made it back in one piece albeit a little wet!

The rules aren't as strict for the under 5's but I didn't want to risk taking my own digital ones for them to be not quite right & them send it back.

It wasn't too bad - £3.99 for 4 photos so at least I can get it sent off now before the rush!

Thanks again

Hi

I know you've done it now, but we took our grandaughter to JS Simnett, at 2 Guild Street, Burton-on-Trent (near Frankie & Benny's) when she was about 4 months old (that was about 3 years ago now), they were very good and took their time in ensuring that no ones supporting hands or arms were visible in the final pictures, They charged us £10 for four pictures back then, but we had no problems getting the passport.

I had a nightmare getting Mia's photos done - the two places I'd gone to with Luca had both closed down.

Then when I found somewhere else and got them printed, they said they couldnt sell them to me as they thought the background might be too dark... and then I had another mare with the application form itself and ended up having to complete it 3 times (dont ask!).

But I just wanted to add to what Nathan said - they are much more lenient with under 5's. Luca hasnt even got his eyes open on his passport photo!

Just for future reference ,

Allison at Taylor Made Photography (leaflets can be found in Little Stars Nursery) did Rory's passport pics when he was 12 months. They were superb and when the PO checked and his 'head wasn't big enough', she kindly enlarged the pic.

That aside, she's just a lovely children's photographer.

Cheers
